Dare Rudd (John Wayne) and Dinkie Hooley (Sid Saylor) are a pair of penniless vagabonds who go to Wyoming in the hope that Dare's cousin Tom Fillmore (Johnny Mack Brown) will help them out. But once they get there money is the furthest thing from Dare's mind. It's Tom's girlfriend Judy (Marsha Hunt) that catches his eye and he quickly employs every ounce of charm he can muster to win her affections. It doesn't take long before Tom realizes that Judy may indeed be falling for Dare and so he forms a plan to expose him as the shady character he really is by giving him a task that he's destined to fail.
